Abstract

Introduction: Prostate cancer (PCa) has a high incidence worldwide, generates various alterations in patients, therefore, it is important to evaluate whether cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has positive effects in this group of patients.

Objective: to know the effects of CBT on Quality of Life (QoL) in patients with PCa.

Method: The Medline, APA PsycInfo, Web of Science and Cochrane Library databases were reviewed, using the PIO method, MESH, text words and Boolean terms were used to make the crosses, from the year 2000 to 2020.

Results: 800 articles were found, the results of 11 publications were analyzed in which the CBT used was identified. It was found that CBT has positive effects on the QoL of patients with PCa; Furthermore, the modality, the psychological variables measured, and the techniques used in the treatment were found.

Conclusions: The available evidence suggests that it is necessary to extend the use of CBT to improve QoL in patients with PCa, in addition to developing these investigations in other populations, for example, Latin American patients.
