Penile tear from a dog bite: A case report and narrative review of the literature

Clinical case description: A 55-year-old man came to the hospital emergency service after being bitten in the penis by his dog. The accident caused several lesions on the glans penis and circumferential avulsion of the skin from the balanopreputial sulcus to thebase of the penis. The scrotum, testes, corpora cavernosa, and urethra were intact.
Relevance: Genital trauma from an animal bite is a complex lesion, given that it involves a contaminated wound with a high risk of infection and complication because it can compromise the integrity of the urethra and corpora cavernosa of the patient. Due to the rareness of those types of lesions, there are no clinical guidelines establishing their correct management.
Conclusion: More studies with greater scientific evidence are needed to aid in the formulation of standardized clinical practice guidelines, enabling improved functional and cosmetic results in those patients.
